Here are some of the more frequently asked questions we get. If you don’t see your question, please contact us.
Royal Arts Classes and Programs
For the most current list of hours, please click here. A summary of our operating hours is located in the bottom right corner of each page of this site.
We provide many class times throughout the week. Please talk to us if you need to substitute classes for the week. We do add classes and additional times as membership demands and coach schedules require.
Yes, it is often confusing. Different clubs can even refer to all these things differently. For Royal Arts we define these as follows:
Classes. Classes are for groups. They may be beginners as in an introduction to fencing or member groups training. Also referred to as Group Lessons.
Lessons. This means in individual private lesson or semi-private lesson ( 2 fencers ). These types of lessons are never published on the website and require you to book lessons through our member services site. Also called: private lessons or semi-private lessons.
Beginner classes? $75 for a four week session with all equipment provided.
Floor fees to fence during open fencing time is $10.
If you are interested in joining our club as a member, please talk to us at the club and we will introduce you to club membership.
Both. While we run the largest youth program in the state, we also actively promote adult fencing. We really mean it when we say you can fence from 5 - 105. Adult times tend to be later in the evening and youth times earlier.
Great. Talk to us at the club, and we'll go over all the benefits of membership. Members are able to attend our group classes on all operating days and are eligible to take private lessons and participate in special members activities.
Arnold Fencing Classic
In 2004, Royal Arts coach Julia Richey started the Arnold Fencing Classic as a part of the Arnold Sports Festival, the largest multi-sport festival in the world. The fencing classic is now one of the largest independently run tournaments in the nation and has events for fencers from 8 - 108. Arnold is the host of the event. More information on the Arnold Fencing Classic can be found here.
Filmmaking at Royal Arts
American Fencer is a short film made about Coach Julia's life as a fencer in the Soviet Union and her transition to coaching in America. It was a top five finalist in the 2011 Arnold Sports Film Festival. The festival had 150 entries from 30 nations.
Fencer are a very creative group. At Royal Arts we enjoy making movies and sharing the sport we love with the world. Our coaches have a big interest in filmmaking, particularly Coach Tim, so it is a natural addition to the Academy. Our fencers love creating and staring in movies. You'll love it to.
Our movies are shared among family and friends, sometimes entered in contests and posted online.
