Last week, five Royal Arts fencers journeyed to Reno, Nevada, to participate in the 2011 Summer National Championships. Fencers travelling to the beautiful Reno-Tahoe area were Frank and Harry Ditullio, Tommy Anglim, Jewelia Smith and John Stimpfl. It was the first national tournament for all but Frank and Tommy. It was, however, Frank’s first sabre national tournament, having previously competed in foil.
It was a great experience for all. Now they all have an idea of what a national championship is like, so we are prepared to win it next year.
After competition was over, most fencers ( and the coaches ) went to Lake Tahoe before coming home. It was a great way to wind down, reflect and get clarity on the event on the lake famous for its clarity.
Time to start training for the 2011-2012 season. It’s going to be a big year.
