About Royal ArtsWhen head coach and owner Julia Richey arrived in 1999, she was told that there was no fencing in the US! Of course that was before our Olympians really got started showing the world that the US fences. After a year in Virginia, she decided to start her own fencing club in her new hometown, Columbus, Ohio, to provide students with the kind of fencing education and life skills that she felt were most important.
Ms. Richey was a Russian National Team member for 13 years before coming to the United States.
Royal Arts was formed in 2001 to teach fencing as sport and life lessons. Ms. Richey built the program to be the largest in the area, started the Arnold Fencing Classic as a part of the largest multi-sports festival in the nation, the Arnold "Schwarzenegger" Sports Festival. We are the home of many national finalists, champions, and world competitors.
Together our coaches have built an unparalleled program for fencers of all ages.
More Than Just Fencing...We love to fence. Fencing teaches skills for life. We utilize those skills and do many other projects to compliment the experience of our members and community.
Julia created Royal Arts and was on the Russian National Team for 13 years in foil and epee. She consistently produces elite fencers competing at the highest level. She has been coaching since 1989.
